Post a formatted outline, with sluglines.

  1. So we open with Walter walking into the apartment and finds Amanda overwhelmed with dozens of boxes that was once in storage and Amanda can no longer afford to keep there.

Walter suggests a Garage Sale to clear out the clutter and that it would also be a great and Amanda pawns off the responsibility to Walter.

As they go through the boxes, old pictures, trophies, and toys reveal a lot about Amanda's past and childhood. Maybe some that Amanda wants to keep private or is embarrassed to reveal at first to Walter.

Among the contents of the box is an old 1970's stewardess Barbie doll which is extremely rare which reminded Amanda why she wanted to go into the Air Travel profession in the first place.

  2. Doesnt she meet a little old lady and give it to her, with the payoff being the little old lady goes on antique roadshow and its worth thousands?

The little old lady should be a retired stewardess who Amanda finds a kindred spirit in.

  3. Hey Keats, you read Gabe and I 's episode?

  4. I like the idea that they screw themselves out of selling the doll for a lot of money. Would they being watching tv and see the old lady find out how much it is worth?

  5. Yeah we were thinking of it more like a book end where Walter keeps watching it at the beginning of the episode because him and stupid Betty used to watch it, and then at then end they watch the doll get sold

  6. we haven't quite decided if we are going with the AR type show for the button or if they compile the money they got and buy something they need for the Apt. I like both but I want class input...

  7. I think I like the AR better, it is a funny note to end on and is that situation again where they do all of this "work" and send up where they started from, like it's a habit with these two

  8. Ok, I hope I did this right. I had to break this up into two posts. Heres the first part.

    INT. APARTMENT - LIVINGROOM

Amanda and Walter sit on the couch and watch t.v. They watch an “Antiques Roadshow” type of a program which shows a man getting something appraised.

The doorbell rings. Amanda goes to answer it.

    INT. APARTMENT - DOORWAY

A couple of MOVERS with boxes are at the door. Amanda tells them to put the boxes wherever and goes back to the couch.

    INT. APARTMENT - LIVINGROOM

Walter asks what is going on and Amanda tells him that she had a storage garage but can’t afford it anymore, so she has to keep it at the apartment. She tells him it’s only a couple things. They continue to watch the show while the movers come in and out with more boxes.

Walter notices the apartment filling up with boxes and by the time the movers leave they are surrounded by boxes of Amanda’s stuff. Walter tells her that they can’t live like this and that she needs to get rid of her things. He suggests doing a garage sale. Amanda says she’s never done a garage sale and needs help. Walter agrees to help her, but only because she offers him a portion.

Walter gets in action mode and rattles off a list of things that they need. Card table, markers, posters, price stickers, etc. Amanda, shocked, asks if he has done these a lot. He tells her that it was a hobby of his and Betty’s. He reminisces about when he and Betty would drive all over town on weekends looking for them. Amanda, annoyed about constantly hearing about Betty, leaves the room to go through her things.

EXT. APARTMENT PARKING LOT - DAY

Amanda stands in the hot parking lot of the crash pad next to the dumpsters. She arranges her objects on the card tables in front of her as Walter walks up with a big cardboard sign covered in glitter and colored paper. He’s annoyed with their location, saying that nobody will know where they are, but Amanda tells them that this is only place that the apartment complex would let them do it.

He asks if she has priced her items yet, but she lies and says yes. He quizzes her but she over/under prices everything making Walter frustrated because she doesn’t care. He tells her if they do this right, they could make a lot of money. Amanda rolls her eyes, because she thinks most of it is crap.

Walter checks his watch and announces that the garage sale has began.

    Rest on next post.

  9. Second Part:

EXT. APARTMENT PARKING LOT - LATER THAT DAY

As time passes barely anyone shows up except old people who haggle for a lower prices. One customer even goes dumpster diving for better stuff. Walter gets upset that they aren’t selling anything and blames Amanda for her lack of participation. He brings up that if Betty was there they would be selling much more annoying Amanda.

She suggests that they switch out some of the objects for others. She goes through a box and stops when she finds an old “Stewardess Barbie”, still in the box, buried underneath of junk. She stares at it for a moment and looks as if she’s about to cry. Walter asks what is wrong, but she doesn‘t answer and puts the doll on the table to sell.

-Ok, here is where I could use your guy’s help. We basically want to find out that the doll was given to her by her mother. It was given to her when she became certified to be a flight attendant. Mom found it at a flee market/thrift store. Through this we see that Amanda and her mom have a rough relationship.

-We thought of a funny moment of Amanda telling Walter that she had lost her mother. Walter asks when she died, but Amanda really means that she lost her mother, she doesn’t know where she is. She’s been missing for five years.

While this is going on, an old woman in a walker comes to the table and eventually sees the doll. She wants to buy it and Walter offers $8 or something. The old woman says $2. The two haggle until Amanda gets so frustrated that she just gives the doll to the women just to be over with it.

Walter gets upset with her and mentions that Betty could have gotten a better price. Amanda flips out on him and confront him about how he always talks about Betty and that it is all about him. Walter feels bad and asks what Amanda wants to do.

The two take all of the things they didn’t sell and throw it all in the dumpster. They call it quits.

    EXT. APARTMENT - DAYS LATER

Amanda and Walter are sitting on the couch. Amanda is flipping through channels finding something of interest. Walter stops her when he see the “Antique Roadshow” like show is on.

They watch as an old lady is getting a doll appraised. Walter asks Amanda is the old women looks familiar and Amanda agrees. They show shows a close up of the doll and they both realize that it’s the “Stewardess Barbie” doll that Amanda gave to the old women. The host remarks on the rarity of the item and prices it at some ridiculous amount of money.

Walter and Amanda look at each other in disbelief.

Like I said I hope I did this right.

  10. K so I thought there would be more of reminiscing from Amanda so we could find out more about her through her things. Also I think she should keep at least one thing like the stuffed panda "Pamanda" we were talking about or something. Also I think the antiques roadshow should be another thing dumb betty and walter used to watch together... hate betty

  11. If you wanted to show that the relationship between Amanda is strained you could have her price the items depending on how she feels about them. For example, there could be a princess costume that she never got to wear on Halloween because her Mom wasn't there to take her trick or treating or some such sappy nonsense. Because its a bad memory, she can price it at like 20 cents. You could do this while Walter is rummaging through her boxes trying to find stuff worth selling.

Another thought I had for the beginning of the episode. If you wanted to get right to the boxes, you could have the episode start with Walter being trapped in his closet by boxes with Amanda ignoring his pleas for help.

  12. Nice job with this outline! I think you've been successful at establishing this episode as one that really focuses on learning much more about Amanda while not leaving Walter in the dark.

I like George's idea of pricing things based on how she feels about them. That also gives opportunity for Walter to continually question why she's giving things such seemingly random prices and she can defend it with the story of the item.

The thing that stuck out to me though is about the Barbie. I really like the idea around it about her mom and her becoming a Flight Attendant, that's great. But I think most people know that Barbie collectors will pay crazy high prices for them, and Walter definitely would know that if he watches Antiques Roadshow. And I think Amanda lets go of an item that seems to have a lot of meaning to her pretty fast. Maybe Walter convinces her to sell it because it's so valuable and puts a price tag on it for $300 or something. But Amanda thinks that ridiculous and while Walter isn't around, the old lady haggles her down and Amanda then just gets rid of it for $8, as some cathartic experience to get over her mom, which pisses Walter off.

But I think this is developing really well and will shape up to be a good character revealing episode.

  13. I think you've set up a good base. What's the core story about? I think it just needs a whole lot of conflict. Walter brings the sale inside?
